Call Me Coach

I know most of you will be thinking, haven't you already done this before? The answer sadly is no...and I haven't even told you what we're talking about.  I am officially a USA Swimming Certified Coach.  I have coached many a swimmer and team before but I have never officially done the full gambit of tests and certifications to tie myself to the United States National Governing Body of Swimming.  So let's celebrate that I made it official!

I had imagined I was done with club coaching for awhile--with a kid, and another on the way--and would just be enjoying a private lesson here and there as I did last summer. I was so satisfied with this that I just barely let all of my Red Cross Lifeguarding certifications expire, for the first time ever.**Fun Fact: This is the 11th year I will have been certified as a lifeguard. I was definitely the oldest person in my re-cert class at the YMCA by a good 6 years, and definitely received the nickname Baby Momma for the duration of the course.** Lo and behold, it is a terrible idea for me to ever do this.  I always seem to find a new way to need it, even though I haven't actually lifeguarded since maybe 2006?? Anyways, the stars have aligned and yet another great opportunity has dropped into my lap. On Tuesday I am starting my new position as Novice coach for the local club team. Hip hip hooray! The coach that hired me told me to pack the kid on my back, or more safely for me, in a stroller, and head on over. I have fond memories of watching one of my first coaches walking up and down the pool deck with her child strapped to her back, and hoping that one day I also could be a mommy and a swim coach. Looks like dreams really do come true. Watch out Bob Bowman here I come!

Congrats Anna! That will be so fun for you and for those lucky kids who get to have you as their coach. I'm sending obedient and calm thoughts to Desmond. Hopefully they help.
